Our Story

Noble Knight Games began in 1997 with a personal passion for hard-to-find games and a commitment to helping other collectors find them too.

Founder Aaron Leeder was working at the General Motors plant in Janesville, Wisconsin when he began searching for out-of-print Dungeons & Dragons books and war games in his spare time. What started as a personal collection quickly grew as other collectors began asking him to track down the same hard-to-find titles. Under the name Aaron’s Out of Print Games, he began listing items on gaming forums and a simple AOL text page, taking orders directly through email in the early days of online game retail.

As demand grew, so did the business. What began in Aaron’s living room expanded into a storage unit, then into a 3,000 square foot facility, and later into a 6,000 square foot building in Janesville built to support a growing inventory. By 2017, the company’s collection had expanded across multiple warehouses, leading to the move into a single purpose-built facility in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. That location combined warehouse operations with a retail storefront and provided space for more than 1,000 shelving units and over 300,000 new and used titles.

While the company name evolved from Aaron’s Out of Print Games to Noble Knight Games, its core principles remained the same. From the beginning, Noble Knight was built on a buy, sell, and trade model, a focus on hard-to-find and out-of-print games, and a commitment to strict, consistent, and honest grading. Those standards helped establish the trust that collectors, players, and sellers continue to rely on today.

Today, Noble Knight Games ships orders worldwide from its Fitchburg, Wisconsin headquarters. Our catalog includes both current releases from today’s publishers and long out-of-print titles that can be difficult to find elsewhere. We continue to buy and trade with collectors and gamers around the world, operate a Friendly Local Game Store that serves our local community, and maintain a hands-on inspection and grading process for used items. Every used product is physically reviewed by a member of our team before it is listed and shipped, continuing the standard established from the very beginning.

Our Grading Standard

Every used item in our inventory is physically inspected before it is listed. No photo grading. No outsourced assessment. A member of our team handles the item, examines it, and assigns a grade.

We use a grading scale ranging from Fair to Shrink Wrapped. The scale is specific. A VG+ is meaningfully different from a VG, and our buyers apply it consistently across every category, from fragile 1970s RPG softcovers to Magic: The Gathering singles to used miniature box sets. When there is any doubt about whether something qualifies for a higher grade, we grade it lower. We would rather undersell a condition and exceed your expectations than oversell it and disappoint you.

After grading, items are individually bagged to help protect the condition we assigned. The grade you see when you buy is the grade that arrives at your door.

For a full breakdown of what each grade means, including category-specific criteria for books, boxed games, wargames, and cards, see our complete Grading System page.

Hand-Graded Used Items

Every used item is physically inspected and graded by a member of our team before it is listed for sale. We do not grade from photos, and we do not rely on automated systems to assess condition. Our team applies a strict, consistent grading scale across categories that include vintage RPG books, Magic: The Gathering singles, boxed games, miniatures, and wargames. After grading, items are individually bagged to help preserve the condition assigned. The condition listed on the site is the condition we expect the customer to receive. After nearly 30 years of handling used and collectible games, our grading process is built on both clear standards and category-specific experience.

Rare and Out-of-Print Titles

A large portion of our inventory consists of out-of-print, collectible, and difficult-to-find items, including products that may pass through our hands only once. Since 1997, we have made a deliberate choice to price inventory to sell at a fair market value rather than maximize scarcity-driven pricing wherever possible. That approach helps collectors, players, and sellers alike by keeping inventory moving and making uncommon items more accessible.
