Description

STEEL FURY AT ZÁMOLY I depicts the struggles of German I. Kavallerie-Korps to breaking through the Soviet 4-? ??????????? ????? (4th Guards Army) defenses around the Hungarian town of Zámoly in January 1945, during the attempt to relieve Budapest with Operation Konrad II.

During the German six-day attack of Operation Konrad I, Soviet resistance in the basin between the Vertes and the Ofener Mountains became increasingly strong. Employing infantry, AT guns and tank groups, the latter employing maneuver warfare tactics between the static defenses, the Soviets have constructed a main battle line. Soviet forces have been counterattacking along this line and have forced German asault groups to hack them out of their strongpoints at Bicske and Many and crossed the road between the two village, (ed. on 6 January 1945) had to resist Soveit attacks from all sides and was unable to advance further. To help get the bogged-down attack moving again, an operation at another location is needed. Heeresgruppe Sud prepared an attack from northwest of Stuhlweibenburg by the I. Kavallerie-Korps consisting of the 3. Panzer-Division, the 23. Panzer-Division. This represent a total of more than 100 armored vehicles. It is intended for the assault group to cut off the armored vehicles. It is intended for the assault group to cut off the Soviet forces in the south Vertes Mountains by an attack to the northeast on Csakvar and reach the Val-Ascut line as its first objective.
