Description

The Battle of Shiloh showed all America how bloody and serious the Civil War really was. In this war of brother against brother, neutrality was impossible. As the year 1862 began, both armies shifted their attention to the west where control of the Mississippi and its tributaries was crucial. Rebel strategy was to defend the South's borders against the invading Yankee hordes and Northern strategy was to invade the South and force the rebellious states back into the Union.
