Description

This is the second of an occasional series of wargame books under the title of Wargaming in History. This series sets out to provide books for those who love wargaming and history. They include what we hope will be inspiring photographs of wargames, beautiful uniform illustrations, maps and accounts of the historical battles and the way they might be wargamed, as in every case they have been.

This volume moves to the War of the Austrian Succession which preceded the Seven Years War and lasted from 1740 to 1748. It deals with three battles from the western theatre: Dettingen, Fontenoy and Lauffeld. Two are fought twice, in different ways, so in all, five wargames are described. One of these is also examined using smaller unit sizes for those who do not have large units of miniature soldiers.

In this volume, rather than being interspersed throughout the book, the additional material has been brought together at the end. There is a chapter that deals with the "Wild Geese" (the Irish) and the Scots in French service, including some brand new artwork by popular military artist Bob Marrion. There is also a chapter of wargame miscellany, with a number of sections which relate to the wargame aspects of monarchs on the battlefield, written orders, allies and alliances and elite troops. Hopefully there is something for everyone!
