Description

'Then it was, that the magnanimous Arthur, with all the kings and military force of Britain, fought against the Saxons. And though there were many more noble than himself, yet he was twelve times chosen their commander, and was as often conqueror.' - Nennius

The legend and tales of Arthur are legion, and have existed for over a thousand years in many forms and variations. After all, who among us doesn't know of Camelot, the Knights of the Round Table, Merlin and Excalibur? But in contrast to these stories, the 'Historical' Arthur was more likely a cunning and fiercely patriotic Dark Ages Warlord, who fought for Briton against Saxon expansion sometime during the mid to late 5th Century.

At this time, about 100 years after Rome abandoned Briton, the land was open to internal strife and invasion from outside forces. One Warlord, in particular, stood above the rest, and he gave the Saxons a terrible time in battle. So much so, that he was named the Dux Bellorum or 'Battle Leader' of the Britons. His single-handed achievements on the battlefield galvanized the Britons into a formidable foe, and ultimately set back Saxon expansion for generations.

Meet Arthur of An Laoch Ri, The Warrior King.

The Historia Brittonum

Penned by the English Monk Nennius circa the late 8th Century, The Historia Brittonum chronicles 12 major battles fought by Arthur and the Britons during the early Dark Ages. From the initial River raids along the Glein and Dubglas to the larger fixed battles at Agned and Badon Hill.

Wolf vs Dragon

An Laoch Ri, The Warrior King is a unique quick play turn based combat game that puts you in command of 'Arthwyr' and his forces battling against the Saxons, Picts, and Rebels in these 12 battles as chronicled in the Brittonum. In addition, CamLann, thought to be Arthur's final battle against Mordred and Pict rebels, caps off the engagements, even though it is not included in the text.

A Feast for Crows Indeed!

With striking fully animated 3D Graphics, Immersive Sound and Special Effects, in An Laoch Ri they all combine into an action-packed Medieval combat game that brings a sense of immediacy and danger at every turn.

Experience for yourself the savage war bands, ominous dark forests, rising mists, moon lit raids, battle standards rippling in the breeze, camp sites and buildings ablaze, and carnage littered battle fields. All of the fun, but none of the smell!

The Dux is Back

With an easy to learn, and accessible quick play game system that has become the hallmark of Digital Gameworks, An Laoch Ri keeps you involved and keeps the battles moving. While staying true to turn-based mechanics, the system's command activation and initiative control system reflects the uncertainty of early Medieval combat while maintaining engaging play.

Further, the game's abstracted level and focused scenarios will have your attention from the very first turn, while randomly generated forces and positions add to the game's replay value.
