Description

The German assault to capture Stonne was slowly developing into a wide encircling movement as the elite Gross Deutschland Regiment, assisted by elements of the 10th Panzer Division, were now coming from both the east and the west in large numbers. The defenders and the last surviving AT-guns were ordered to join the second line of resistance. Disengaging from the main street under small arm fire, the French withdrew to the south-west. Suddenly the heavier panzers showed up and panic-stricken poilus fled from the village to gain the relative security of their foxholes. A short massacre occurred when a Panzer IV followed them, shooting at point blank with both guns and machine-guns, peculiarly aiming at the officers and their easy to pick out uniforms.

STONNE HEIGHTS is a detailed new ATS system game that tells the story of the Battle of France with incredible detail. The game zeroes in on the village of Stonne, a vital cross-roads along the Meuse River and the objective of the elite Grossdeutschland Regiment, assisted by elements of the 10th Panzer Division. Unlike the eventual outcome of the Battle of France 1940, the outcome in Stonne was anything but certain. No sooner did the dark silhouettes of German AFVs emerge from the Bois de la Grande Côte than the bark of a 25mm anti-tank gun was soon heard and the first panzer set ablaze, beginning what would be a massive armored confrontation. The clank of massive Char B1-bis tanks was soon heard as these behemoths were hurled into the fray. The game cartography is unprecedented in detail and was created on site by designer Pedro Ramis. No effort was spared as unpublished photos were used to create accurate renditions of every building in the village of Stonne.
