Coignet marched in the ranks of Napoleon's armies, first as a corporal, then later as a captain. These extracts, from notebook IV to notebook VI, cover the period from 1804 to 1811. They take us from just prior to the Austerlitz campaign to the eve of the invasion of Russia in 1812.
