What Is Hero Lab?
Hero Lab is an integrated set of software tools for creating, adjusting, and storing character data for a multitude of roleplaying games. There are three key components to Hero Lab: the main program, data files, and the editing tools.

The Program
At its core, Hero Lab is an incredibly versatile engine, designed to accommodate just about anything that the RPG industry can come up with. It's flexible enough to adapt to nearly every genre of roleplaying on the market, and intricate enough to keep up with the most demanding of rules systems. Hero Lab presents a wealth of highly detailed information in a manner that is easy to navigate and intuitive to use. Through the use of adaptive summary panels, all the inter-dependencies of your character are readily visible. Mouse-sensitive help keeps all the details at your disposal without cluttering up the screen.

Hero Lab manages all the complex inter-connections of your character automatically and transparently. As you make changes to your character, Hero Lab automatically applies the appropriate bonuses, penalties, and modifiers. Similarly, selections that become invalid due to user-selections are immediately flagged by the validation engine.

Characters aren't just about numbers and choices, however. Every character has a story of how they came to be, and how they have evolved. With an innovative journaling mechanism, Hero Lab gives users the ability to track the key events in a character's life. And Hero Lab's unique In-Play mode allows players to easily manage their characters during the game, including the automatic application of temporary effects (e.g. ability score adjustments).

Data Files
Hero Lab accomplishes all of the above for virtually any game system. All of the facets of a given game system are encapsulated by a set of data files, spanning the core game mechanics to the validation rules, and even the visual organization of the display. As such, Hero Lab requires the download of a set of data files corresponding to each game system.

Editing Tools
In addition to the product and data files, Lone Wolf Development provides tools that allow users to customize existing data files and create new data files. These editing tools make it possible for users to edit existing elements, add new elements, and make adjustments for house rules.
