Dabel Brothers Production (DB Pro) was founded by Les, Ernst, Pascal, and David Dabel as a means of making their mark in the entertainment industry on many fronts. Though the brothers initially planned to be involved in several forms of media, the Dabel Brothers had a special love for the comic book medium and decided to focus upon it and begin developing a line of books in 2001.
Earlier, the Dabel brothers had already begun pursuing licensing agreements with big-name authors to try and develop a line of adaptations of major fantasy and science fiction novels.
Their passion soon caught the attention of George R.R. Martin, best-selling author and creator of the A Song of Ice and Fire series. Despite potentially more lucrative licensing he could have pursued, Martin chose the Dabels because of their genuine, personal investment and commitment to quality.
Wanting to capitalize on the reputation for quality and commitment that Roaring's founders brought to the company, it was agreed in mid-2003 that a change was in order. Since the family name of Dabel seemed better known to the industry professionals, the fans, and the author community it was so quickly winning over, a decision was made to change the company to Dabel Brothers Production.
