Review: Abeir-Toril....the Forgotten Realms. Perhaps the greatest world you could ever run around in, since the Old Sage himself said that he wanted to share the world he made with everyone. Why I like the Forgotten Realms as opposed to say....Krynn, is because the Realms are flexible. You don`t need to follow the timeline at all and can shape it as you wish. I have yet to meet a GM or a Player that plays in the Realms that runs it 100% cannon.
But this is not a review on Krynn; it is for the Realms. It gets an 8; why you may ask? Well, it`s simple. Since other books have come out to and errata just about everything in it, it`s really only good for the Chosen of Mystra template and detailed information regarding all the areas. Of course, if you`re someplace like Waterdeep or the Unapproachable East, then that book would be a bit more useful to you. But still, it`s the only place to get a bunch of the big name NPC`s that inhabit the world, such as Drizzt, Mirt and Elminster. It`s also the only place to get rules on Genasi creation, as well as rules for the Gold Dwarves and the other two races of Halflings.
If you`re looking to run the Realms, you need to start here.
