Description

On October 12, 1914, Allied forces attacked German forces in the Ypres area. The intention was to recapture the industrial city of Lille and drive deep into Belgium. At first the move was successful, however on October 18 they met the full force of a German offensive and withdrew to reform around Ypres where they desperately resisted another powerful German onslaught.

This book recounts the battle, which marked the death of the old British regular army, for 58,000 officers and men had fallen during this one month of fighting.
